The Lesson of Maud Lewis

Six Paintings. One Concept

We could make this publication thanks to small donations. How is 3 minutos de arte supported?

Maud Lewis had rheumatoid arthritis. A horrible disease which stopped her from having “a conventional life.” And despite the deformations the disease caused her, she played the piano as long as she was able to, and painted until was not able to hold the brush.

Through her works, with her naive, intuitive, simple style, we can always see her smiling, radiant. Her work is a celebration of simple and close things.

Maud Lewis turned a nightmare into light, color and joy of living. And that is art: more than the beauty of the color and shape combinations, the intensity of life behind the brushes.
