Tamara de Lempicka, symbol of the Art Déco, had a very clear objective: belonging to high society. With her virtuosity as a painter, her social skills and a huge talent for marketing, she dedicated to portrait aristocrats —mainly women— with a combination of classic and modern air, a dose of eroticism and the challenging attitude of the modern woman. All that led to her becoming one of the most renowned portrait painters of the history. And even more: in addition to seducing that aristocracy she had always wanted to belong to, she achieved that “not having been portrayed by her was a synonym of not belonging to the most exclusive circles of the privileged class.”
