Sorolla and his Period of Social Realism
Six Paintings. One Concept

Joaquín Sorolla was always very interested in light nevertheless, light was not always the main subject of his work. At the beginning of his career —until almost the end of the century— we can observe in his work a stage of social realism. His paintings committed to reflecting the hard life of the unprotected classes. A brave posture, since in his time it was not easy for an artist leave aside "beauty" to show truth, which in that circumstance would be "ugly" and disgusting.
