Because of her female condition, Mary Cassatt had to fight hard to be able to paint and earn a place in the world of art. She even had to fight against the prejudices of her family.
That is why, when she finally got to be part of the Impressionist movement thanks to Degas’ invitation, she decided to prioritize the career instead of getting married and having children. And as art consists in creating new universes, the universe she created in most of her work is the privacy of the home and the maternal love.
