Edgar Degas exhibited many times with the Impressionists, but he was not obsessed with the effects of natural light and changing atmospheric conditions.
One of the main interests of Degas was the human body and its movement, that is why he chose to paint ballet dancers once and again throughout his whole career.
For that he usually used pastels, since they allowed him to work with ease and with wonderful results not only on the movement, but also on the counterpoint of energy and subtlety, of strength and fragility.
