Blue Picasso

Six Paintings. One Concept

Pablo Picasso’s blue period (1901-1904) is one of the clearest examples of the revolutionary use of color in modern painting: color is no longer faithful to reality; it is faithful to the artist's state of mind. Blue stains the works with melancholy: it is the existential anguish that overwhelms the artist in that difficult and unbearably painful stage of his life.
